Channel letters are the most competitive and visible form of outdoor advertising. The term “box” refers to the three-dimensional nature of the letter body: the letters have a depth that allows for the placement of internal LED lighting. We offer all technological solutions.

For outdoor advertising, the choice of material determines the lifetime. Although polycarbonate (PC) is cheaper and more impact resistant, we at Bepro have Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), more commonly known as acrylic glass, was chosen for the front panels. Based on our research and experience 20 the difference is spectacular:

1. Light transmission: PMMA has a light transmittance of 92-93%, which provides the highest transparency of all plastics. In contrast, polycarbonate can only achieve 86-89%, resulting in dimmer brightness for the same LED output.
2. UV stability (Yellowing): One of the biggest drawbacks of polycarbonate is that it turns yellow and dull over time when exposed to UV radiation. PMMA is inherently UV-stable, so your signage will remain as snow-white and vibrant years later as the day it was installed.
3. Scratchiness: Although polycarbonate is harder to break, its surface is much softer, making it easy to scratch during cleaning. PMMA’s harder surface is more resistant to micro-scratches, preserving a mirror-like aesthetic.

Did you know that in Budapest and in rural cities, the installation of billboards is subject to strict permits? A 476/2024. (XII. 31.) Government Decree 2 and the local Town and Country Planning Manual (LAP) are essential to avoid fines.

Many businesses are only confronted with the fact that the sign they have installed is considered to be “eyesore” or is in a prohibited zone when they receive the fine. The Bepro team has up-to-date legal knowledge of the advertising billboard 11 and town planning procedures.

• Preliminary Feasibility Study: Check that the property in question (e.g. protected monument, World Heritage site 14) whether illuminated signs are allowed and, if so, in what size.
• Technical Documentation: We prepare the design documentation, which includes a scaled technical drawing, day and night view plan and a fixation description.23

The most modern CNC milling machines are used in production 9 is used for machining aluminium and plexiglass, ensuring millimetre-precise fits. When installing the LED modules, we ensure proper cooling (heat dissipation), which is critical to the lifetime of the LEDs. 25

Maintenance Guide:

Outdoor signs require regular maintenance. Dust, smog and bird droppings can reduce the brightness and damage the surface.

• Cleaning: Box letters should be wiped down at least once a year with lukewarm, detergent-safe water and a soft (non-scratching) cloth.26 The use of solvent-based cleaning agents (e.g. thinner, petrol) is strictly forbidden, as these can corrode the surface of the Plexiglas!
• Electrical control: It is recommended that power supplies and connections are checked every 2-3 years. The Bepro maintenance contract 28 we will take this off your shoulders.

• How much does a lit box letter cost?
  The price depends on a number of factors: the size of the fonts, the complexity of the font (the base fonts are more labour-intensive), the type of lighting (direct/indirect) and the difficulty of installation. As each job is unique, ask for a free quote! The use of quality materials (PMMA, Samsung LED) pays off in the long run by minimising maintenance costs.
• What is the production time?
  The average turnaround time is 10-15 working days from the acceptance of the visual design.9 This depends on the size of the project and our capacity. Regulatory approval can extend this time, so it is worth starting the process early.
• What is the consumption of the illuminated sign?
  Thanks to modern LED technology, power consumption is minimal. A 30 cm high character consumes an average of 10 watts 9, a fraction of the old neon signage.
• Are the signs waterproof?
  Yes, for our outdoor signs we only use LED modules and power supplies rated IP65 (waterproof) or IP67 (immersion-proof) 19, so rain and snow won’t cause any failure.
